Golden Agri Resources’ (GAR) continues to show commitment towards improving its environmental performance, the firm said in its Sustainability Report for 2016 and media briefing this month. The company is currently aiming to reduce haze through banning burning of forests for new planting or any other developments and the development of high-carbon stock (HCS) forests in now forbidden. Meanwhile, GAR has also been working to enhance traceability. In 2016, 15 GAR palm oil mills achieved full “Traceability to the Plantation” (TTP)
GAR expect Indonesian palm oil production to continued rebounding from last year’s El Nino, Agus Purnomo, Managing Director for Sustainability & Strategic Stakeholders Engagement said this week at the Sustainability Report media brief. Purnomo expects Indonesian palm oil production to hit between 33-37mn t this year, and the firm continue to look for new export opportunities in markets such as Russia and Southern Europe. Purnomo expects palm oil to keep its competitive edge over rival vegetable oils on the basis of its strong yields and competitive prices.
