A fire broke out at the Renewable Energy Group Geismar Biorefinery in LA, California at midnight last night, as reported in a statement by the company 2 hours ago. The fire was reported to be completely extinguished by 4:30am. The plant has remained shut since April with this being the second fire so far this year. At that time REG expected it would take two to four months to resume operations however it’s not clear what had caused the delay.
REG is a leading distributor of advanced biofuels such as biomass-based diesel, with distributions going to most of the US. The facility in Geismar has capacity of 75 million gallon of renewable fuel per year and utilize fatty acids as major feedstocks to produce.
