The switch from volumetric blending mandates to greenhouse gas mandates in Germany has had an evident effect on ethanol and biodiesel consumption. Biodiesel consumption from January to August this year is sitting at 1,477k mt, down 3% YoY despite a 4% rise in diesel consumption.
German biodiesel consumption for the month of August stumbled once again on the back of the switch to a greenhouse gas savings mandate at the start of this year, according to the latest BAFA data. Biodiesel consumption fell for the third month in a row, with consumption in August sitting at 185k mt, down 10% YoY. Diesel consumption fell slightly in August to 3,172k mt, down 8% MoM, although diesel demand was still 2% higher than August 2014 levels.
Ethanol consumption for the month of August was up 3.5% MoM, although consumption from January to August has fallen 2% YoY to 670k mt. Gasoline consumption in Germany from Jan to August this year has fallen 1% YoY.
