Enviral to build advanced biofuels plant in Slovakia

Slovakia’s largest ethanol producer Enviral is set to build one of Europe’s first advanced biofuel plants at its existing site in Leopoldov, partnering up with chemical developer Clariant.

Once completed, the plant should be able to produce 50,000 t/year of cellulosic ethanol from agricultural residues. Enviral will use Clariant’s sunliquid technology to process the agricultural residue feedstock to produce cellulosic ethanol.

This partnership will make the plant one of the first in Europe to start producing advanced biofuels for commercial purposes and will be a crucial step towards helping Slovakia meet its advanced biofuels targets over the coming years.
